The Foundation's aim is to specifically support and develop primary education.

The Bakoteh Children Foundation was founded in 1998 and is named after the Bakoteh Primary School in the Gambia (West Africa).

As a result of our visits to various schools in the Gambia we have started the foundation to stimulate education. The circumstances in which teaching is given leave a lot to be desired. This made us decide to offer help in a materialistic and organisational way.

We try to achieve this aim by means of working together with schools and companies in the Netherlands, sharing knowledge, collecting and offering school supplies and improving housing conditions.

At this moment it is impossible for a lot of children to get an education.

This, as a result of the bad financial circumstances of the parents.

It is a fact that unemployment is very high in the Gambia. To ensure the children of a good future, the Foundation offers an individual sponsor program.

Also the housing of most schools is too small. This makes classes too big and decreases the personal attention to the children. It often occurs that classes exist of 50-80 pupils in one classroom. If the number of pupils is too high it is common to have children go to school in shifts. This automatically implies that children get back from school at around 18:00 o'clock or even later.

To improve these teaching conditions, the foundation - in dialogue with the school and the community - offers support in the form of different projects.
