| In 1996, during a visit to the Bakoteh Primary School, we (the founders) came in touch with education in the Gambia. The circumstances in which children were to attend classes at that school touched us deeply (small classrooms, overcrowded with pupils, nearly no school materials, like books, etc.). Therefore we decided to start supporting the school. | ||||||

In 1997, we supported the Bakoteh Primary School with a large number of English books. At that moment we decided to start the Bakoteh Children Foundation. |

Afterwards, a fence was realised at the school grounds, which made it possible to lay out a kitchen garden. After 2 years different vegetables and fruits were grown, which were used to prepare the school lunches or for other educational means. |

| In the year 2000 the government decided to take care of the housing and the maintenance of the school buildings. Thanks to the governmental support, some new buildings were built and the number of pupils increased.
Due to this positive change, the members of the Bakoteh Children Foundation decided to start supporting another school. |

| The Banjul Lynding Lower Basic School agreed to cooperate with the Foundation. The number of school going pupils at Banjul Lynding was above 2000 and the school needed support for school materials and school furniture. Due to 2 cargo transports, approximately one third of the school is now provided with furniture and at the end of the year 2002, another transport will be realised. This transport will provide the school with the rest of the furniture. The school materials are already collected and are waiting to be transported. |
