In 2000 we started with the individual sponsorship of children, which became a new task of the foundation.During our visits to the Gambia we met different families who could need help with the education of their children.

Our contact person in the Gambia is Mr. Mamudou-S-Bah, with whom we have been in close contact for 5 years now.

For the last 2 years Mamudou-S-Bah is the person visiting the schools and the children’s families whenever this is necessary.

Mamudou is also the person to whom the children can turn whenever problems occur.

At the moment 50 children are able to go to school through the Bakoteh Foundation.

The children are stimulated to maintain contact with their sponsors by sending them letters, explaining how they are doing at school and telling their stories to the sponsor families.

Omar Marong
Last year showed, that families of sponsored children often turn to Mamudou for help concerning food and sickness.

That’s why the Foundation decided to also offer a contribution for medical costs.

This way sick children are able to visit a doctor and get all the necessary medical help or medicine they need.

Sometimes it happens that one day a family doesn’t have enough money for food, in this case Mamudou makes sure that the family gets some “fishmoney” (money to buy some fish or food) for that day.

To offer a child education, we ask a contribution of € 10 /month.With this money we provide in the following needs of the child:

- School Money

- School Materials (e.g. Books)

- School Uniform

- School Bag

- Shoes

- Lunch at school

The contributions of the sponsors are only for the education of the children and to provide in their needs (e.g. to able the children to go to school, have some food, wear decent shoes and get medical care).

The costs for projects and overheads are completely separated from the sponsored money.

We hope that through the aid of sponsors this kind of help can continue to exist in the forthcoming years!
